What’s the maximum amount of reward points I can collect from a student credit card?

There’s no limit to the number of rewards you can earn — the more you use your card to pay for things, the more points you’ll collect. Your points don’t expire, as long as your account is open and in good standing, so you can use them anytime 26 .

Can I still earn cash back rewards when other authorized users make a purchase?

Yes, you can still earn cash back rewards when authorized users make a purchase. Everyone’s purchase rewards are pooled into one single account — which means you can earn rewards faster. If you’re the primary cardholder, only you can redeem rewards.

You can request up to 3 additional cards on your account. Plus, you can set different spending limits so you’re always in control.

1 Only primary cardholders are permitted to perform a “Payment with Points” or “Financial Product with Points” redemption. Authorized users are not eligible. Redemptions are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-transferable unless you are advised otherwise. 2 The Aeroplan number of the person accessing the benefit must be included in the qualifying reservation, and the name on the airline reservation must be identical to the name on the Aeroplan account of the traveller. For authorized users’ ability to access available benefits, their Aeroplan number must be linked to a valid CIBC Aeroplan credit card account as verified by the bank. Additional guests of primary cardholders or authorized users may enter upon paying an applicable fee. 8 CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card primary cardholder, authorized users, and up to 8 other passengers travelling on the same reservation (up to a maximum of 9 travellers), are each entitled to Priority Check-in (where available), Zone 2 Priority Boarding and Priority Baggage Handling. Benefits only apply when checking in with Air Canada, for a flight operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge or under the Air Canada Express brand. Benefit is not available if check-in is with another airline. To access this benefit, the primary cardholder or authorized user may be required to show their qualifying CIBC Aeroplan credit card to the Air Canada agent.

12 Effective July 1, 2022: Primary Cardholders have access to participating lounges within the Visa Airport Companion Program (“Program”), hosted and managed by Dragonpass International Ltd. Cardholders must enroll for this benefit either through the Visa Airport Companion App (available to download for free) or on the Program Website Opens in a new window. using a valid Card. Upon enrollment, 4 complimentary lounge visits will be available for the Primary Cardholder per membership year; the complimentary visits can be used by the Cardholder for themselves and for their accompanying guests at participating lounges. All additional visits beyond the complimentary visits are subject to a fee of $32 USD (subject to change) per person per visit charged by the Program. Applicable lounge access fees will be billed to the CIBC Card connected to the Cardholders’ Program membership. Unless suspended or cancelled, the Program’s membership automatically renews on its anniversary date. 15 Earn 4% cash back on purchases, less returns, at merchants classified by the credit card network as grocery stores and supermarkets, or gas service stations, automated fuel-dispensers and electric vehicle charging with a merchant category code of MCC 5552. Earn 2% cash back on purchases, less returns, at merchants classified by the credit card network as (i) local and suburban commuter transportation in Canada, including subway, streetcar, taxi, limousine and ride-sharing services (excludes merchants that may be classified as travel services or travel bookings such as air transport, car rentals and cruises), (ii) eating places and restaurants, drinking places and fast food restaurants, or (iii) recurring payments that are pre-authorized with a merchant to occur on a regular daily, monthly or annual schedule and classified by the merchants as recurring. All other purchases earn 1% cash back. 19 The cash back is accumulated each month, beginning with the January statement and ending with the December statement. Only primary cardholders are permitted to make a cash-back redemption. Authorized users are not eligible to redeem cash-back dollars. The primary cardholder may redeem cash back at any time during the year, provided they have a minimum cash-back balance of $25 at the time the redemption request is made. The minimum cash-back redemption amount is $25. Cash back will be credited to the primary cardholder’s account within 5 days of the date the redemption request is made. Any cash-back amount that is not redeemed by the primary cardholder by the last day of the period covered by your December statement will be automatically redeemed, resulting in your cash-back balance being reset to zero, and applied as a credit on your next statement, or, in limited circumstances, at such other time as may be permitted by CIBC. 24 Requested redemption amount must be equal to or less than the cardholder’s available Aventura Points balance.
